How to find a player by nickname in a PokerStars search?

13.02.2022

In recent years, online poker has taken a course towards poker ecology. The goal of most rooms has become to protect weaker players from professionals. The interest here is not in altruism - simply in the current realities amateurs lose their deposits too quickly. Because of this rooms receive less rake and recreational players after rapid zeroing give up on online poker. Some make an anti-advertisement of the room, talking about their disappointment and even accuse them of fraud.

That's why poker rooms are restricting regulars. The most popular step in this direction is to limit the selection. So that strong players can not prey on weak players. PokerStars has the most extensive experience here: it bans TableScan Turbo, auto-seating scripts, limits multitabling to 4 tables. Searching for weak players has become more difficult, but there are still ways. Let's talk about one of them.

How to find players by nickname on Pokerstars: step by step instructions

The most difficult thing when tracking the game on Poker Stars is to find out the nickname. That is why it is recommended to remember, or better to write down the nicknames of the most pleasant opponents. In order to find a specific opponent, you need:

1. On the right side of the lobby click on the "Tools" button.

2. In the new window select "Find...A Player".

3. A window with a search line will open. In it you should enter the nickname of your opponent and click "Find". If a player is sitting at least at one table, the search will find him instantly.

As an example, let's try to find "dhooper139".

Enter his nickname and find out that he is sitting at a table "Aquitania".

When you click on the green button "Go There" will open this very table. If it has a free seat, then take it. If the table is full, you can join the waiting list.

In the window with the search results you can immediately go to the tracking of other opponents. The "Find Another Player" button is responsible for this. The nice thing is that PokerStars saves the search history, so you do not have to type in the nicknames of your opponents every time. We press the arrow near the search line and a list of the opponents, we searched before, appears.

The search works both at cash tables and in tournaments.

There is also an alternative way to search for players by nickname:

1. In the PokerStars lobby press CTRL+F.

2. Copy or type a nickname of the opponent.

Sometimes the opponent can be not found by searching, but still be online and sitting at the tables. This means he has hidden himself from the search.

How to hide yourself from searching by nickname on PokerStars?

There is a way to prevent the hunter from becoming a victim. Here's what you need to do:

1. In the Poker Stars lobby, click on the "Settings" button. It's located on the right side of the client.

2. On the settings tab, click on "Privacy".

3. Check the box next to "Hide me from Find a Player search tool".

4. Click on the green "Apply Changes" button.

In April 2022, PokerStars added an easier way to hide your nickname from internal searches:

1. In the lobby, click on your avatar.

2. Check the box next to "Hide from Search Feature".

Both methods will have the same effect - you will hide your nickname from search.

Amateur players don't hide themselves from the search. But professional poker players often make themselves inaccessible. That does not necessarily make sense, because sometimes the information about the game at 4 tables is enough to prevent another regular from joining you. But if you've hidden yourself from the search, the opponent will not be able to find out about your multitabling. For more tips, see "How to Select Tables in Semi-Automatic Mode".

How to find Neymar or other members of the PokerStars Pro team?

PokerStars pays a lot of attention to poker pros in its brand promotion. Lex "L. Veldhuis" Veldhuis, Benjamin "bencb789" Rolle, Parker "tonkaaaa" Talbot and many others are on PS contracts and are members of "Team Pro".

PokerStars also has a "Team Online Pro"

Contracts are also signed with popular media personalities like tennis player Rafael Nadal or soccer player Neymar. Poker fans follow their games with great interest. That's why PS has made it easy to find these players at the tables with a separate tab:

1. In the Poker Stars lobby, click on "Tools".

2. In the window that will open, click on "Find a Team Poker...".

3. In the tab, the whole list of people with PokerStars contracts will appear. It is divided into two parts: semi-transparent players are offline, and written in clear font - sitting at the tables online.

4. Two clicks on the line with the currently playing professional and the list of his tables will open. Let's try it on Tom Hayward. He's currently trying to win 4 tournaments. If you click on "Go There" and select one of the tables, you can watch him online.

Searching for pro players is convenient because you don't need to know the nicknames, because there is a ready-made list.

What free programs work on PokerStars?

The Select is not the only way to increase income. Poker programs also increase win rate. Let's consider two of them:

1. SharkScope. Strictly speaking, it is not a program but a service because you do not need to download anything. SharkScope is similar to PokerStars' opponent search, only it provides more information on the game in all poker rooms. Whether we have a fish in front of us or a regular, what form he is in, what buy-ins he plays, total profits over all time, performance schedule - SharkScope will answer these questions.

SharkScope silver star hints that Tom Hayward is really good

In a vacuum against an unknown opponent, these data sometimes decide the outcome of the tournament. The service is legal and saves 99.9% of tournaments played online in its database. You can try it for free - any user has 5 searches per day.

2. StarsCaption. An assistant program that removes a lot of routine from players and simplifies multitabling.

StarsCaption also has integration with the Hand2Note poker tracker!

Built-in HUD, betting profiles, hotkeys, pop-up blocker, conversion of stacks into big blinds, automatic table layout on the screen - not a complete list of features of the software. Works for free with no time limit on NL10 and in tournaments up to and including $3.
